Caitlin Rainey, 33, of Northfield, was arrested on Sunday, May 12. The Atlantic City Police Department issued a news release on Thursday, May 16 to update the original information it released about the arrest on Tuesday, May 14.
An officer found an empty and stolen minivan on the first block of Tennessee Avenue at around 6:57 p.m. on Sunday. Shortly before police arrived, surveillance video showed two people leaving the minivan, which had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
Rainey and 33-year-old Adam Ross of Absecon were arrested by police near the minivan. Ross was released but then arrested again after police said he stole another vehicle about eight hours later.
During her arrest, Rainey told police she was her sister Aine Wallace. Rainey was brought to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with a "medical complaint."
Rainey was released on a summons with a future court date. After Rainey's arrest was announced publicly, Wallace told police on Wednesday, May 15 that Rainey had used Wallace's information.
Investigators said Rainey has used several aliases before to avoid being arrested on warrants. She had an active arrest warrant when she was taken into custody in the stolen vehicle investigation.
Rainey was originally charged with receiving stolen property, joyriding, and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. She was wanted on additional charges of identity theft and hindering apprehension for using her sister's identity.
